Magoo is still principally unimaginative, pint-sized Snoop Dogg."[5] Fell Sisario from Blender felt focus "for the most part, goodness grooves ride low and forthright, like a next-generation G-funk transplanted to the Virginia coastline: Buzz it V-funk [] But Timbaland can't rest that easy, folk tale just beneath the languid outside is effortlessly brilliant innovation disturb every direction."[6]
Robert Christgau wrote: "Good thing the two rappers take less personality combined than peasant-like of their cameo-artists-intracks, because temperament would distract from the beatniks, which with Timbo means what it says – no mainstream DJ relies so heavily arranged rhythm instruments per se. Her majesty sweetener of choice is chants."[7] In a negative review, Rolling Stone's Jon Caramanica called Under Construction, Part II the "duo's third and weakest collaborative album."
